Licensed Software

The Licensed Software Office (LSO) negotiates and administers software license agreements with many vendors in order to decrease overall software costs to the University. The software can be purchased by U of T students, faculty and staff. However, depending on our agreement with the vendor, not all software is available to everyone.

Coming Soon SAS for July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023

Updated July 25, 2022: We have reached an agreement with SAS and are providing a temporary license extension to August 30, 2022 while our order awaits payment and processing. We expect purchase of the new license to be in place by the end of August. To obtain the temporary license file and instructions please login to with your UTmail+ account.

The Licensed Software Office will continue to distribute licenses for administration, teaching, research, and student classroom purposes. Distribution of the Academic Strategic Fee Waived License was contingent on administrative users paying for the license. We were not able to fund that license and will continue to distribute it on a cost recovery basis for administration, teaching, and research. The price will be lower than in previous years and determined after payment of the invoice.

Coming Soon SPSS for August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2023

We are currently in the procurement process and expect to have the license available for purchase in early August.

If you have the software currently installed it will be providing a warning that the license is now expired. It has entered the 30 day grace period and would stop working at the end of August.


Security Multiple SPSS versions with Log4j Vulnerability

Update February 14, 2022: IBM SPSS Statistics Modified Release 1 Fixpack 1 (version has been released and incorporates the previous interim fixes.

For versions 25, 26, and 27, new interim fixes were released by IBM on January 18, 2022 . If you have already updated to the latest fix pack or modified release in step 2 below then please proceed to step 3 to download the latest interim fix.

IBM has announced that their SPSS desktop and server software (Versions 25, 26, 27 and 28) on all platforms is affected by the Log4J critical vulnerability. This vulnerability would allow an attacker to take complete control of the host system allowing access to data and the possibility of installing ransomware. Please do not open your SPSS application until you have contacted your IT group to get confirmation that your affected SPSS files have been replaced.
