Blossoming Student Space

Spring is in the air and renewal is in the Robarts Library. Following the success of the 9th, 11th and 5th floor Robarts projects, work is nearing completion on the 3rd floor Media Commons space. Students will have for their use a tiered, theatre style viewing room capable of holding up to 49 students, a smaller room which will hold 28 students, two additional viewing rooms for even smaller groups, and a renovated videoconferencing room.

In the stacks, we will be working on floors 10, 12 and 13, adding twenty additional and four renovated group study rooms and almost 900 new or renovated study spaces in the apexes on these floors.

The architect has just completed the design for the second floor as seen in the simulations provided here. Upon entering the building, people will see ranges of gracefully arcing display cabinets. Users will be able to enjoy new meeting space and casual, counter-top study areas with stool seating. The changes will improve way finding, and welcome library users with up-to-date information service.

Also underway is a new external staircase that will lead people coming from the southwest sector of campus to an entry point directly from Harbord Street.
