Student Video Contest
In February we asked students based on the St. George Campus “What do you Love about the University of Toronto Libraries?” Students answered with incredibly creative 45-second videos describing different libraries, resources and other reasons they love the library. Three contest winners were chosen by popular vote, with over 1,600 votes cast in the online poll. The winning videos were:
Matthew, Jonathan and Oscar each received an iPod touch from Chief Librarian, Carole Moore, at a March 31 awards presentation at Robarts Library. All runners up received a $25 Aramark gift certificate, for use at food services locations across campus. All of the videos can be viewed at http://resource.library.utoronto.ca/contest/contestwinners.cfm.
The contest was very well received on campus, generating a great deal of positive feedback from students, staff and others, as well as publicity in the campus media, including The Varsity, the newspaper, The UpbeaT Blog and UTTV. Students even used their own social networking channels to help promote the contest, extending the reach of our message and acting as impromptu ambassadors for the library. The contest also provided unexpected opportunities to build relationships with student leaders and collaborate on several new media initiatives which will facilitate enhanced communication with students in the future.
