Configuring Your Web Browser to Stop Using U of T Library Proxy Server

The University of Toronto Library proxy server is no longer in service and has been replaced by my.access.

Please follow the instructions below to reset your browser to stop using the proxy server. There may be minor differences depending on the browser version you are using. but the same general steps should apply.

NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR OR NAVIGATOR (4.0 above)

To disable or stop using the proxy server:

  1. In the menu bar, select :

    Edit

    Preferences

  2. In the Preferences : Category window. select the Advanced Menu.


  3. From the drop down menu, select Proxies first,

    then select Direct Connection to the Internet


  4. Click on the OK button to close the window.

  5. N.B. Now close Netscape browser and restart it.


INTERNET EXPLORER (version 3.0 above)(Windows)

  1. In the menu bar, select :

    View

    Internet Options


  2. In the Internet Options window, select Connection.

    At Proxy server click on Access the Internet using a proxy server to deselect it.

  3. Click OK

  4. N.B. Now close Internet Explorer and restart it.


INTERNET EXPLORER 4.0 (Macintosh)

  1. In the menu bar select Edit Preferences...
  2. Choose Proxies under the Network category
  3. Select Disabled
  4. Click OK and the setup is complete.

  5. N.B. Now close Internet Explorer and restart it.


INTERNET EXPLORER 5 (Windows)

  1. In the menu bar, select :

    Tools

    Internet Options


  2. In the Internet Options window, select Connection.

    If you are using a Rogers Cable connection, please click LAN Settings, otherwise

    in Dial up Settings Box click on your ISP (as the example below), Then Click on Settings

  3. Click on Box Use a proxy server to remove the checkmark.


  4. Click OK to close Proxy Settings

  5. Click OK to close Internet Option Window.

  6. N.B. Now close Internet Explorer and restart it.


AMERICAN ONLINE 4.0 and 5.0 (for Windows 95 and Windows 98)

  1. In the menu bar select

    Sign On

    Sign On Screen

  2. On the Sign On screen, click Setup.

  3. On the AOL Setup screen, click Expert Setup.
  4. Click once on ISP/LAN Connection to select it and click Edit.
  5. In the ISP/LAN Connection window, select Automatic Connection Script.

  6. Click OK to close AOL Setup Window.

  7. Click Close to close Connection Setup Window.

  8. Click Sign On.
