Found in thick soft loose beds of wet sphagnum moss, or rarely on mossy decomposing logs, in partial to deep shade in Eastern White Cedar swamps. Often growing with Early Coral-root and One-flowered Wintergreen. Blooms from late May through early July. This species and its preferred habitat are rare in Muskoka.
