Observed Varieties:

var. virescens (Muhl.) Luer
In old growth deciduous woods dominated by Sugar Maple and Yellow Birch with False Solomon's-seal, Canada Mayflower and Partridgeberry. Also in mixed woods dominated by mature Eastern White Cedar with Rattlesnake Fern, Poison Ivy, Bracken, Large-flowered White Trillium and Starry False Solomon's-seal. Usually in full to partial shade in moist loam, especially where there are thick accumulations of leaf litter. Blooms mainly in June. Rare in Muskoka.
