Finding books

Using the catalogue, part 1 of 4

The University of Toronto Libraries contains one of Canada’s leading research collections. The Library Catalogue allows you to search all the UofT libraries for books, e-books, journals, e-journals, dissertations, and audio visual material.

The following are examples of how to search the Library Catalogue.

Library Catalogue Search Example 1:
The Narrow Search

Figure 1 (click to enlarge image in a new window)

You are looking for books on gene therapy.

By default, containing and any field will be preselected in the Library Catalogue when it opens.

A containing search will look for the words gene and therapy together or separately:

1) Click on the any field drop menu and choose title from the list.
By selecting title, the Catalogue will only search for the words gene and therapy in the title of every item in the Catalogue.

2) Type "gene therapy" in the search box and click Search.

There are 119 title results all of which will have the words gene and therapy in the title.
