In our
October '03 issue we described
the importance of the choice of URL or link for searching PubMed. Using
either of the two links to PubMed on the Gerstein page, it is also
possible to limit search results to U of T holdings. Here are
some ways of doing this.
The simplest way is to change Display from the default Summary to Abstract; this
will display all your results in one list with a visual indication of
UTL electronic and print holdings. You will then see citations
which are available at U of T as well as those which are not available
locally. Your eye will have to do the limiting to local holdings.
A second way:
First, do a search as you normally would.
Then, enter the following in the search box: loprovicautilib[filter] and click Go
Then, select History
Then, taking the set numbers from the History page, combine the
appropriate set numbers with an AND.
(The "loprov" means local provider; "icautilib" stands for the U
of T; this string of letters follows the equals sign in the URL used on
the Gerstein page; [filter] completes the search syntax.)

This can also be done by combining this statement as a second part of a
search as follows:

A third way is to save the set of UTL
holdings as a bookmark and combine those results with a new search set
as follows:
Type in search box: Loprovicautilib[filter] and click
Go.
Click Details
Click URL
Bookmark and edit the bookmark (or Add to Favorites) according to your
browser.
You can then sign off PubMed, come back another time and use the
Bookmark/Favorites and then combine the bookmarked results with results
of a new search using the History feature as in method 2. This
method has the advantage of only entering the syntax once.
