UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS
The Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library’s outstanding collection of prints and book illustrations by printmaker Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) is highlighted in a forthcoming exhibition, Wenceslaus Hollar: Prints for a Changing World. Printmaking reached new technical and artistic levels in the seventeenth century, and Hollar was among its most admired practitioners. His exceptionally wide range of subject-matter reflects the political and religious conflicts of his times, changes in book and print culture, and the expansion of European knowledge during his lifetime. The Library holds one of the world’s finest collections of Hollar’s work, thanks to the generosity of the late Sidney Fisher, a noted Hollar collector. The exhibition will feature a selection of book illustrations and prints representing Hollar’s extraordinarily broad range of subject-matter, remarkable powers of observation, and superb artistry.
