In the words of Dylan, "the times they are a-changin'", and certainly the rapid development of digital technology in the 21st century has meant that universities and academic libraries are facing unprecedented challenges. But how is the library community being proactive rather than reactive?

The TRY Library Staff Conference is seeking proposals on the Academic Library as an Agent of Change from ALL library staff in the Toronto, Ryerson and York library communities. Presentations and poster sessions are invited on all aspects of the library and its role in navigating a changing academic environment.

Questions to consider include:

  • Why is change necessary?
  • How is your library effecting change, and with what success?
  • What are the barriers to change and how can they be broken down?
  • How is your library changing to meet user needs?
  • How are the users themselves changing?

Possible subject areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Application of management tools such as transparency, strategic alignment, or others;
  • Technology, in all its manifestations and uses;
  • Scholarly communication, including Open Access;
  • Teaching and information literacy;
  • Partnerships and outreach;
  • The juxtaposition of tradition and innovation;
  • Collection development;
  • Special collections;
  • Provision of services to users;
  • Professional development and training for staff;
