Mission and Scope

Mission

The mission of the TRY (Toronto-Ryerson-York) Library Staff Conference is to engage peers within the Toronto university community to:

  • foster the exchange of innovative ideas and knowledge
  • enable collaboration and social networking

Scope of Purpose

Each year the TRY Library Staff Conference will feature a variety of sessions relevant to libraries with an over-arching theme as selected by the committee. Past conference themes have showcased collaboration, student engagement and libraries in the digital age. Sessions, plenary and conference sessions may encompass any of the following:

  • Best practices
  • Innovation
  • Social networking
  • Showcasing and appreciation of various staff functions and roles
  • Exchange of ideas
  • Pan perspectives
  • Outreach
  • Promotion of teaching
  • Socializing
  • Working conditions

General Principles

  • Each conference has an anchoring theme
  • An opening and closing Plenary be planned
  • A keynote speaker for the opening Plenary session
  • Identify up to 5 Conference streams from proposals
  • Make the conference as accessible to staff as possible to attend or participate
  • Focus on identifying a diversity of sessions and perspectives from proposals
  • Work to create a welcoming environment to facilitate informal networking and exchange of ideas
  • Organize an end of day wrap-up social event
  • Creative solicitation of vendor support
  • Representation from all departments within each library community will be encouraged
