I go along with Frost's notion of the poet as a trickster, making use of a bag of tricks. When I'm writing poetry I'm a juggler, a card shark, a tightrope walker.
As to what poetry is, I subscribe to Emily Dickinson's definition: "If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry."
