University of Toronto Stone Faces


Faces in stone peer through the ivy and look down from heights above. Victorian architecture used gargoyles, usually in stone to embellish the outside of buildings. Here are just a few of the probably hundreds of stone faces.

For interiors, creatures of other worlds were often carved in wood.

Hart House and University College have many architectural embellishments, but peering and looming faces are also to be found on many of the buildings in the downtown St. George Campus.
